Special Notes The Expansion Tank serves a 3 fold purpose in a liquid cooling system. First it maintains a positive pressure required on tyhe circulating pump inlet for proper operation of the water pump. Second it compensates for changes in the coolant volume due to temperature changes. Third it vents air from the system and provides a source of makeup coolant to compennsate for minor losses due to leakage. Overtime the Expansion Tank may discolorr and crack allowing the coolant to leak causing your engine to overheat.
